Future-Ready Powertrains: Supporting the industry on the road to 2035 and beyond
The mobility of the future is electric; but the path there is far from linear and will be shaped by a mix of technologies. Amidst an unclear political framework and continued consumer hesitancy, OEMs must navigate one of the most complex transitions in automotive history.
At SEG Automotive, we are the motor for this transition with technologies that give OEMs the flexibility they need to plan for different scenarios. And, critically, to reduce CO₂ emissions not just in the future, but already today – because every gram we don’t emit counts.
Hybrid architectures as a bridge to lower emissions
Evolving policies and shifting targets create uncertainty about the exact pathway toward full electrification. Even the European Union is considering revising its full ban of new combustion engine cars to instead allow certain hybrid and pure-ICE vehicles to remain on sale past 2035. This gives plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and range extended electric vehicles (REEV) an important role in reducing emissions where full BEV usage is not yet feasible – e.g. due to lacking charging infrastructure.
PHEVs pair a full electric drivetrain with a combustion engine but offer only a limited purely electric driving range of up to around 100 km. REEVs take a different approach: only the electric motor can drive the wheels, while a compact range extender acts as an on‑board power source that can recharge the high voltage battery on the go – significantly increasing the vehicle’s reach and operational flexibility.
SEG Automotive offers solutions for all battery-electric concepts: High Voltage traction machines as the main eDrive for BEVs, PHEVs and REEVs, as well as highly efficient, compact HV motor-generator for range extender solutions.
Flexible, scalable e-machines
Our high voltage e‑machine traction building kit is tailorable to any powertrain, with scalable power and packaging across 48V to 800V applications.
It can be supplied as a complete e‑machine, as stator and rotor components, or as an integrated 3‑in‑1 solution including gearbox, inverter and software.

High Voltage Motor-Generator for Range Extender
Our high‑voltage motor‑generator portfolio for REEV systems delivers efficient power generation on demand in a compact, integrated package. It covers pure generator architectures (P1) and combined generator and electrified‑drive unit concepts (P1.5, P1+P3) to match different use cases and packaging needs.
It offers a practical solution for markets that cannot rely on dense charging infrastructure yet, and for OEMs that want to future-proof their fleets today. [Opens in a new tab] Find out more about our range extenders.
A realistic path to cleaner mobility
Electrification is accelerating, but not all segments will transition at the same speed. By supporting efficient hybrid concepts and offering technologies that reduce emissions in demanding environments, SEG Automotive enables OEMs to deliver cleaner mobility across diverse markets and a wide range of use cases.
